Roses in Thyme

Roses in Thyme is a very small rose nursery nestled
in a hollow on historic Sculps Hill in Schuylkill Co. Pa.
Small nurseries reflect their owners’ passions.
Our passion is old roses. The aim of our business
is to get good roses that ought to be grown and preserved,
into the right hands and gardens.

We really believe in grafted roses, particularly for cold places
and difficult situations. After years of
uncertainty, we decided to believe our own eyes.
Grafted roses, planted right, get off to a superior start
and eventually make their own roots, giving one the best
of own root and grafted. Still, many varieties aren't
available grafted. These are found roses,
rare roses, roses that are seldom on our
wholesalers availability list. These we propagate
ourselves and sell own root for a little less
than grafted plants.

As always, our roses for sale are a mix of old friends
which we grow and know intimately and roses
that we've researched and have wanted for our
own gardens
but haven’t had a chance to grow.

Our favorites are the tough old roses
that flourish on good care, yet persist on neglect.
Our favorite June pastime is hunting
them out in old cemeteries, waysides and farmhouses.

OUR OUTSIDE ROSE SALES are DONE for 2010
Thank you for making it a successful season.
Remaining roses will be listed at the end of the 2010 rose list.

ROSES in THYME
                       SCULPS HILL HERBS

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
    Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine...        A Midsummer Night's Dream
